This video piece was motivated by a somatic compulsion to be submerged into a substance which can provide safety and can hold and sustain the body; the earth. In this work I plant my body in the soil, skin against cold earth like a seed. In a later revisitation of this work looking at it through a critical framework I am witness to the same compulsion that motivated the work of artist Ana Mendieta  “My art is the way I re-establish the bonds that unite me with the universe.” This work was made in my early days at art school and in retrospect the themes of earth, the body and a greater spiritual connection are all present.
